National packager Benson Box book Mace for new electrical distribution system

Award winning and leading national packaging manufacturer to the UK’s key food retailers, Benson Box, called in Burton’s Mace Electrical for its new distribution system.

Located at Bardon, near Coalville, Mace engineers lead by MD Simon Chapman designed and installed the system for mains supply to the company’s new Heidleberg XL 105 6-colour, computer controlled, printing press.

Seven Mace engineers installed complex, individual 200, 315 and 400 amp electrical systems required to meet the demands of the new press which runs at 18,000 sheets per hour.

Benson Box has an established position as one of the country’s most innovative packaging designers and manufacturers with many cutting-edge packaging solutions to its name for its market-leading customers, including Marks and Spencer, Batchelors, Thorntons, Bayer, Boots, GlaxoSmithKline, Tesco, and ASDA.

The newly installed distribution systems were located in supply tunnels cleverly positioned beneath the new press. These installations have been protected by air and fire suppression systems, using large ‘fire-control packs’ to limit and control the effect of any unlikely fires.

At the other end of the scale from the high voltage supplies, the Mace team also installed low voltage sockets on the new press for use by the in-house maintenance teams during their regular service programmes.

Mace MD Simon Chapman added, “Our teams’ two-day programme was designed to enable Benson Box to start trials of their new press without any delays.”

“We worked around the clock to minimise disruption to the agreed programme which was delivered to plan. It proved that our early planning and preparation always delivers advantages.

“And, that’s why we always employ it on large and small contracts alike.”
