Mace at The Malsters

Mace Midlands, Burton’s award-winning contractor has completed its latest contract with the installation of air-conditioning systems to the new offices and production centre of Hardy Signs, on The Malsters.

The sign company’s two-level office, design and manufacturing facility in the 4,400 sq ft, Unit 11 on the new development, houses the largest sign printing and production equipment in the local area.

Mace was invited to design and install air conditioning and ‘heat pump’ systems that would enable the sign company’s teams to set the working temperatures in all individual rooms and workspaces.

This contract follows the successful completion by Mace of initial air-conditioning installations and associated works at the former head office of Bison Products on Millennium Court.

“Energy-efficient air-conditioning is critical in today’s office and production facilities”, pointed out Mace Midlands MD, Simon Chapman.

Although the latest materials are far more tolerant of changes in temperature and consistently stable across wider spectrum of ambient conditions than the products they have replaced, there is still a high demand for enhanced temperature control.

Many printers and sign making companies have from experience found the most suitable conditions for their individual operations; this is often around 18 – 22 degrees C, similar to 68 degrees F.

“In the case of the large flatbed printer, well-regulated and consistent temperature ensures that our printing work proceeds smoothly; and, likewise the high-durability inks and dyes have a suitable drying time. Too hot and they dry too quickly; too low and the curing time becomes over extended”, pointed out Hardy Signs MD, Nik Hardy.

“We are also keen on maintaining our offices and studios at suitable working temperatures for all our teams. In this case, the Hitachi systems installed by Jason Cooper and his team are highly efficient with excellent energy rating and low-operating noise”.

The unseasonable heat wave at the end of September and early October provided a suitable and unexpected change in conditions for the entire Hardy’s team to trial the new air-conditioning systems to the full.

“We were pleased to receive feedback that the system had performed to and also above expectations”, confirmed Mace’s Simon Chapman.

He added, “Our engineers led by Jason Cooper, worked to a tight timetable to achieve the target completion date which later including some working outside of office hours to minimise disruption to the operation of the business”.
