Mace at new Ambulance Centre

Mace Midlands was appointed by Cedar View Developments to work in- conjunction with the developer on the design and build for the refurbishment of the former TF Solutions unit on Hawkins Lane.

The electrical design was carried out by Mace Midlands for the new occupier of the premises, WAS Ambulances and Security Vehicles.

Cedar View Developments have been in business since 2007, completing various projects over that time for both refurbishment and new build. They recently completed a major new build of a property covering 3,500 sq ft in Walton.

The development company won the contract for the complete refurbishment and upgrading of the Hawkins Lane’ premises and sub-contracted the electrical design and installation package to Mace Midlands. Both companies worked very closely to achieve a complete package for WAS.

WAS design and manufacture specialised front-line ambulances, in addition to van conversions, which are currently supplied to 9 NHS Trusts along with specialised Paediatric and Neonatal transfer units supplied nationwide, most recently to Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Relocating to Burton, after being based in Ashby de la Zouch for the past four years, WAS has taken the 5,000 sq ft unit that was previously used as an open warehouse by mechanical wholesaler, T F Solutions.

The company’s specially designed vehicles use ultra-light weight sandwich box construction and are built with a clear aim to reduce their carbon footprint by reducing fuel consumption. Their designs have enabled optically enlarged windscreens, with larger windows in the body, offering increased safety and provide an ‘extra spacious’ feel for patients and nursing staff.

This Mace Midlands project was led by Eddie Fuller, who designed and managed the complete installations that have contributed to a major transformation of the former warehouse.

“Full refurbishment of the electrical systems and the installation of an intruder alarm and standalone fire alarm, (the latter specified by the contractor using a Scantronic system), to a comprehensive Mace Midlands’ design have been completed on schedule”, added Eddie Fuller.

Besides providing new offices, the premises have been completely transformed into a large showroom with the latest 150W metal halide display lighting. There is sufficient space and display lighting for two WAS vehicles.
Throughout the design and installation stages, Mace engineers used leading proprietary software to design each lighting system. This was also used to calculate the correct luminance for the professional display area where the level of lighting was critical for the display of large ambulances.

“Our electrical works also included systems in the adjacent offices and boardroom with kitchen and toilets”, pointed out Mace Midlands MD Simon Chapman.

“Our complete package of our works enabled WAS to move in on schedule and begin their operations from their new premises as planned in January”.
